    The main objective of this paper is to present the impacts of information technology (IT) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in business process renovation and to discuss selected aspects of the business processes and information modelling. This study presents the results of research conducted on reengineering business processes in Croatian companies, together with the results of analysis of the status and characteristics of ERP systems in Croatian companies. The results of this study were used to form hypotheses, which were then analyzed and compared against the results of a case study conducted by the authors on business process reengineering and the implementation of the SAP software solution in PLIVA pharmaceutical industry, Incorporated (PLIVA pharmaceuticals, Inc)

    Business process restructuring in Croatian and Slovenian companies: A comparison

    In order to maintain competitiveness and growth, companies need to achieve continuous modernisation of business processes, increased productivity, and cost reduction. As many organisations are looking for new ways of doing business and changing business processes, Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) has become one of the most popular topics in organisational management. In recent years, numerous studies about BPR projects have been conducted. The main goal of this research is to analyse BPR projects in two countries involved in transition processes: Croatia and Slovenia. Different characteristics of BPR projects in large companies are examined, and the methods and tools used in BPR projects are evaluated. The results of the research in Croatia and Slovenia are compared; the similarities and differences between the two countries are pointed out. The objective of the research is to identify whether the managers of the countries in transition have recognised the importance of business processes reengineering and improvement for their companies

    A PROCESS-BASED APPROACH TO KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

    This paper analyses the relationship between business process modelling, knowledge management and information systems development projects. The paper’s main objective is to present business rules as the encoded knowledge of corporate business practices. Further, it introduces a rule-based business activity meta-model as a repository in which business knowledge can be captured and traced from their origin in the business environment through to their implementation in information systems. The case study of the Croatian Ministry of Finance is presented, discussing the practical experience in integrating business process repository and organisational knowledge as the foundation for information system development

    PRIMJENA KONCEPTA SIX SIGMA U KREIRANJU USLUGA MOBILNIH MREŽA TREĆE GENERACIJE

    Usluge mobilne komunikacije razvijale su se posljednjih deset godina brže od drugih djelatnosti. Tržište mobilnih komunikacija razvijalo se paralelno s tehničkom infrastrukturom, odnosno razvojem mobilne mreže. Danas se u svijetu koristi više od stotinu UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service) mreža te je zbog snažnih konkurentskih uvjeta na tržištu kupcima potrebno osigurati poslovnu izvrsnost, a to je moguće uvođenjem i primjenom koncepta Six Sigma (šest sigma). U tu svrhu se primjenjuje DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) metoda i uvode se Six Sigma timovi. U članku je prikazan primjer razvoja i uvođenja novih UMTS usluga primjenom Six Sigma koncepta. Prikazana su, analizirana i razmotrena najznačajnija pitanja, prednosti, kao i nedostaci primjene ovog koncepta
